Service Description

Our Pollen & Grass Allergy Test detects allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the blood, helping to identify sensitisation to a range of common pollens and grasses. This type of testing is especially useful when skin prick testing is not suitable, for example, if you're taking antihistamines, have eczema or are at risk of anaphylaxis. It offers a safe and accurate way to explore suspected IgE-mediated (Type I) allergies. Pollen and grass allergies, also known as seasonal allergic rhinitis or hay fever, can cause a range of symptoms including sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy eyes, coughing and shortness of breath. In Ireland, pollen allergies are common and often worsen during spring and summer. Allergies can also change over time, making retesting useful if your symptoms evolve. This test uses in vitro immunoassay technology to identify sensitisation. A positive IgE result indicates that your immune system has recognised an allergen and produced antibodies against it. However, not all sensitised individuals show symptoms, so results should always be interpreted in the context of your clinical history. What’s Tested: Trees: Beech, Grey Alder, Hazel Tree, Maple Tre, Oak, Silver Birch, Walnut Tree Pollen, Willow Grasses & Weeds: English Plantain, June Grass, Meadow Fescue, Mugwort, Orchard Grass, Perennial Rye Grass, Timothy Grass Other: Total IgE – gives a general overview of your allergic sensitivity Important: This test is designed to detect IgE-mediated allergic responses only. It does not identify non-IgE-driven conditions like coeliac disease, food intolerances or eosinophilic disorders. If you experience seasonal allergy symptoms or suspect pollen exposure may be affecting your health, this test provides a clinically backed, laboratory-based insight into what might be triggering your immune response. Most results within 5 working days. PLEASE NOTE: You are not required to fast for this test. Please come to your appointment warm and well hydrated.
