Urine Testing Includes: Chlamydia trachomatis Neisseria gonorrhoeae Syphilis (presence in lesion or urine) Herpes Simplex I (HSV-1) Herpes Simplex II (HSV-2) Trichomonas Vaginalis Mycoplasma Hominis Mycoplasma Genitalium Ureaplasma Urelyticum Chancroid Blood Testing Includes: HIV 1 & 2 / p24 Antigen Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Hepatitis C Antibodies Syphilis Antibodies (IgG/IgM) Important pre-testing information: Please avoid urinating for at least 1–2 hours before your appointment, as this can improve urine test accuracy. First-catch urine (the first part of the urine stream) is preferred. No fasting is required for this test. Testing too soon after exposure may reduce accuracy due to infection-specific window periods. Typical detection window periods can include: HIV (4th generation HIV1&2/p24Ag): approximately 18–45 days Hepatitis B: approximately 4–10 weeks Hepatitis C: approximately 6–10 weeks Syphilis antibodies: typically 3–6 weeks Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea PCR: often detectable within days to 2 weeks Please note: While urine PCR testing is highly accurate for many infections, some infections are more accurately diagnosed using alternative sample types in certain situations: Active herpes lesions are most accurately tested using a direct lesion swab. Syphilis is most reliably screened using blood antibody testing, particularly in later stages of infection. Throat or rectal infections may require site-specific swabs and may not be detected through urine testing alone. Results are typically available within 2 - 3 working days.
