Service Description

Our Total PSA blood test measures prostate-specific antigen, a protein produced by the prostate gland. It can help assess prostate health and identify whether further investigation may be needed. PSA levels can rise due to an enlarged prostate, inflammation, infection or prostate cancer. A raised result does not necessarily mean cancer, and a normal result does not completely rule it out. Results should be discussed with your GP alongside your age, symptoms, family history and any previous PSA readings. If you are considering testing without symptoms, speak with your GP about the benefits and limitations to help decide whether it is right for you. If you have urinary symptoms, arrange a GP assessment regardless of your PSA result. If you want a more in-depth Prostate Health assessment, you can check out our Prostate Profile Blood Test - PSA & more. This can be found in the Specific Blood Test list in the Book Online page. Preparing for your test: Avoid ejaculation and vigorous exercise, including cycling, for 48 hours beforehand. Let us know if you have a recent urinary infection or prostate procedure, as testing may need to be postponed. Turnaround Time: Most results available in 1 - 2 working days. PLEASE NOTE: You are NOT required to fast before this blood test and we recommend that you come well hydrated!
