Vitamin B12 Blood Test
An important vitamin for making Red Blood Cells and keeping the nervous system healthy.
Service Description
Have you been feeling tired, irritable or weak recently? You might be low in Vitamin B12, an important vitamin for making Red Blood Cells and keeping the nervous system healthy. Signs of a Vitamin B12 deficiency include weak muscles, numbness, trouble walking, nausea, weight loss, irritability, fatigue and an increased heart rate. Supplements Before Testing: Vitamins, minerals and supplements can affect the levels measured in your blood test. If you are taking supplements and want to understand your natural baseline levels, you may wish to avoid non-essential supplements before your appointment. This is especially relevant if you are testing the same vitamin or mineral that you are currently taking. Please do not stop any prescribed medication or medically advised supplement unless your doctor has told you to do so. Biotin, also known as Vitamin B7, is commonly found in hair, skin and nail supplements. Biotin can interfere with some laboratory tests and may lead to misleading results, so please let us know if you are taking it. If you are unsure, you can still attend your appointment, but please keep a note of any supplements, injections, sprays or high-dose vitamins you have taken recently so this can be considered when reviewing your results. Turnaround Time: Most results are back in 1-2 working days. PLEASE NOTE: You are required to fast for at least 6 hours before your Vitamin B12 blood test. You may still consume water. In fact, it's better for blood draws if you are well hydrated! To find out your Vitamin B12 levels are, book a Vitamin B12 blood test today.
