Vitamin D
50% of the Irish population is Vitamin D deficient. Are you one of them?
Service Description
Vitamin D is unique. We can get it from food or by absorbing it from the sun's UVB rays. Unfortunately, Ireland isn't the Costa del Sol and most of us aren't getting enough sunlight. Studies estimate that 40 to 50% of the Irish population is Vitamin D deficient or insufficient, depending on the time of year. Vitamin D is a hormone that plays a key role in many bodily functions including bone health, immune regulation and cardiovascular function. If you've been feeling low on energy, have been fighting off continual colds and flus or you have a lack of desire to do the things you enjoy, you might have a Vitamin D deficiency. Supplements Before Testing: Vitamins, minerals and supplements can affect the levels measured in your blood test. If you are taking supplements and want to understand your natural baseline levels, you may wish to avoid non-essential supplements before your appointment. This is especially relevant if you are testing the same vitamin or mineral that you are currently taking. Please do not stop any prescribed medication or medically advised supplement unless your doctor has told you to do so. Biotin, also known as Vitamin B7, is commonly found in hair, skin and nail supplements. Biotin can interfere with some laboratory tests and may lead to misleading results, so please let us know if you are taking it. If you are unsure, you can still attend your appointment, but please keep a note of any supplements, injections, sprays or high-dose vitamins you have taken recently so this can be considered when reviewing your results. Turnaround Time: Most results are back in 1-2 working days. PLEASE NOTE: You are required to fast for at least 4 hours before your Vitamin D Blood Test. You may still consume water. In fact, it's better for blood draws if you are well hydrated! Don't delay, book a Vitamin D blood test today.
